One of the most frequent questions that we as an auction house get asked is – do you sell? (insert item!) To us in the trade, advertising ourselves as a specialist auction house, it seems obvious but to the general population ‘those not in the know’ we are a mysterious being! The basic rule of thumb is that we don’t take general household objects like furniture, carpets, rugs, ceramics, jewellery or silver. What we do take and sell are the things that people collect. We specialise in selling collectibles.
We began (many moons ago in a different incarnation) by selling toys. We did toy sales. Jonathan started as a model trains and toys dealer so it was a natural progression to start our life in auctions with a toy sale.
The auction generally now takes the form of a toy sale on one day followed by a memorabilia sale (more about that in a minute) on the next day.
Our toy sales include: vintage diecast models, Dinky toys, Corgi Cars, Matchbox vehicles, model trains, train sets (from all the manufacturers including Hornby, Hornby Dublo, Wrenn Railways, Fleischmann, Bachmann, Piko, Lima, Ibertren, Mainline, Atlas, Dapol and Graham Farish to name a few.
In addition to the ‘boys’ toys’ (sexism NOT intended!) we also do well with dolls, teddy bears, remote control toys, tinplate and clockwork toys, meccano and action figures (action man, Sindy, barbie, GI Joe etc)
Day two is Memorabilia Day. Our memorabilia section mainly comprises posters. These tend to be vintage posters such as movie posters, travel posters, music posters and advertising posters. We also sell all film and movie related items such as screen used props, lobby cards, movie stills, banners and merchandise including t-shirts.
What we also include are autographs and signed photographs from the sports, theatre, film, art and literature fields.
