On Saturday 16th January, our Vintage Toys and Model Railways auction took place. This was the first sale of the year and so we were delighted to discover that the majority of the results greatly exceeded their pre-sale estimates!
Countless items doubled, trebled and even quadrupled their pre-auction estimates, making this our most successful sale to date. For instance, lot 272 – a scratch built 3-rail coarse scale O Gauge Class 7F steam locomotive – finished in LMS black livery – numbered 13801, as pictured below, secured the highest bid of the day with a sale price of £700 – approximately 7 times its estimated value.
As the day went on items continued to attract buyers and sell for impressive prices. Lot 324 – a collection of OO Gauge limited edition WRENN Collectors’ Club wagons by DAPOL – VG in VG boxes – sold for £320, despite a pre-auction estimate of just £60-£80.
As the end of the auction drew closer, there was still time for some huge results to be produced. Lot 600 itself was a quantity of OO Gauge cardboard building kits by METCALFE – mostly sealed as new and sold for 10 times its low end estimate price at £300. Lot 624 – a rare HORNBY DUBLO 4654 rail cleaning wagon in immaculate condition, appearing unused with complete set of 6 unused cleaning pads and instructions – together with packing rings – VG/E in G/VG box – sold for a huge £400.
A huge thank you to the team at Excalibur and to all the buyers and sellers who contributed to making this our most successful auction to date. This was a great way to start the new year and we hope our virtual auctions continue to succeed in the same manner.
Our next sale is our Comics and Comic Books Auction taking place on Saturday 13th February. This will again be online so do make sure you register to bid beforehand. See you there!
