Whether you have something to sell at auction for the first time, or are an experienced seller, we’ve put together this step by step guide about how we work. We aim to make the whole process as straightforward and hassle free as possible – whilst ensuring that you get the best possible price for your items.
If you have something that you would like to sell, please get in touch with us, either using our or by calling us on +44 (0) 20 3633 0913
At this point we will explain to you our terms and conditions, fee structures and the next auction dates. There is no pressure to commit there and then – we know that often conversations need to be had with other involved parties or family members.
If and when terms are agreed then we take away your items to be catalogued, researched and photographed. We then advertise and promote the sale and the individual items.
• 20%* of the total sale price (hammer) – which includes all the costs associated with entering items for auction
• Insurance FREE
• Internet and marketing charge FREE
• Lotting (research, cataloguing, photographing, advertising) FREE
• All charges are plus VAT**
Please note that although we don’t produce printed catalogues for our sales, we do send out a full colour pdf catalogue featuring a colour photograph of every lot FREE of charge
*Rates negotiable for high value lots and collections
**All items subject to fees on the VAT apart from books and comics
There is no pressure to commit there and then – we know that often conversations need to be had with other involved parties or family members.
Although we don’t produce printed catalogues for our sales, we do send out a full auction listing and information on how to view everything online. Buyers can also come and view the items in person before the sale
We also advertise on the_saleroom.com which has a huge global customer database as well as in various printed publications
Payment is made 28 days after the sale, directly into your bank account - (or the next working day if that falls on a weekend or bank holiday)
Our charge for selling at auction is a flat 20% (plus VAT). This includes lotting, photographing, advertising, insurance, FREE reserves, and no charges for unsold items (NB terms and conditions apply). If we are in your area we can often collect your items FREE of charge
This means that if your item was to sell for £100 - you would take home £76, we would get £20 and the government would take £4 in VAT
The exception to the above is for comics and books which don't have VAT on them therefore the charge is a flat 20% for those meaning you'd take home £80 rather than £76
In January 2026, we launched our Excalibur Auctions' Round Table sellers' reward scheme. You can read more about it here:
https://www.excaliburauctions.com/excalibur-auctions-the-round-table/
This rewards sellers for their loyalty; the more you sell in a year, the less you'll pay us in commission.
