PETER CUSHING (1913-1994) – a vintage Mabel Lucie Attwell colour postcard sent by the actor to his wife Helen in Paris, handwritten in his familiar blue ink from ‘Egypt SW1’ and dated 17.vii.51 which reads: ‘My dearest dear Helen. Thank you so much for your card darling, it was lovely to think of you sitting on that?’ and continues ‘I’m so glad it is all so lovely, and look forward to your telling me all about it on the boat over a nice N.E.! My love as always’, and signed with a doodle of a dog bone and paw print. Cushing was a prolific writer to his wife whilst they were apart and often sent postcards by Mabel Lucie Attwell, this one featuring to the front one of her familiar child characters, laughing at a fairy on her foot and with the caption ‘Good morning to you!’. Peter Cushing was famously devoted to his wife, Violet Hélène Beck, and in later years Cushing became increasingly reclusive following her death in 1971. Accompanied by four candid family photographs of Cushing. (5)
