An original carriage destination board for the Venice Simplon route Orient Express for Paris to Istanbul on one side and the reverse route on the other. This sign dates from approximately 1962 when there were still two routes of Orient Express and the current Venice Simplon route became known as the 'Direct-Orient Express'. At this time it was also possible to make onward connection across the Marmara Sea at Istanbul to Bandirma and onto the 'Marmara Express' to Izmir. A rare survivor and we have only been able to locate one other in existence in the SNCF national archive (79cm x 32cm). - G ex-use condition with minor surface corrosion
